I don't like the name West Kelowna - the fires were in Westbank and Glenrosa - the Glenrosa Fire on day three retreated allowing the first good view of how close it came to the homes. Unconfirmed we have heard that more than 3 homes had burned, but it's amazing to see how close the fires were to homes and how little damage was done. KELOWNA MISSION CREEK PARK IN FLAMES EXCLUSIVE
At approx.10 am July 19, 2009 Kelownas Mission Creek Erupted in Flames and we were there. The fire grew in intensity as firefighters scrambled in response ultimately calling in a water bomber to drop fire retardant. Mission Creek was also the sight of a fire in the 2003 Kelowna Fire Storm. Although the conditions are bone dry there have not been any lightning strikes to trigger this rash of wild fires leaving many to ponder whether we have the most careless people living here or something more sinister an arsonist. KELOWNA WILDFIRE - Air Tanker Video July 19 2009
Watching the air tanker make pass after pass to knock down a wildfire that sprung up in Mission Creek Regional Park I was left with a feeling of gratitude to these brave pilots. Without their quick reaction there could have been another fire storm to contend with. And lets not forget all the fire fighters on the ground working in the heat and smoke, putting their lives on the line to save 'stuff.'

Lighter side of the WEST KELOWNA FIRE 2009 - Intruder Alarm?
So we are talking with the RCMP at the bottom of Gellatly RD. in West Kelowna and a pair of deer are wondering through the yard of a home that had been evacuate. A few minutes latter another patrol car arrives with 2 officers to check the home where the deer had just been. It seems the deer set off a burglar alarm. What's the chances of seeing something like that or that we weren't able to see the water bombers getting water so we returned to Kelowna right as the Mission Park fire started and watched an air tanker make pass after pass ...YOLO - You Only Live Once, what a day.

Hot, windy and bone dry..WESTBANK FIRE 2009 video
It's dry, hot and windy, more than 10,000 people are evacuated from their homes, as the fires rage on. We drove to the bottom of Gellatly Road in Westbank where kids were jumping of the docks not long ago, the road is now closed, beaches and homes are empty and then as we approach RCMP blocking access to the area - no exception, we see two deer trying to flee the fire and commotion. More to follow on the deer...they had a sinister side.

AIR TANKER ATTACKS MISSION CREEK FIRE July 19, 2009
An air tanker made repeated passes at the Kelowna Mission Creek Fire that sprung up today, July 19, 2009. It was amazing to watch the spotter plane make repeated passes through the smoke and over the fire; twice I heard a loud siren before the air tanker started her assault. Making repeated passes just over the top of the trees the red fire retardant was dropped with precision. Thank you to the air crews and the ground crews that brought this fire under control.

KELOWNA FIRE STORM July 18 2009
In 2003 people on the Westside watched as 10s of thousands of Kelowna residents were forced to flee what was referred to as the Kelowna Firestorm. Hundreds of homes were destroyed as the fire raged on day after day in the late summer heat. July 18, 2009 it was Glenrosa, West Kelowna that faced of with the ravages of a fire storm. All ready the fire has consumed more than 400 hectare and continues to grow, being fanned by up 40 kilometer wind gusts. And now there are reports of multiple fires erupting.
